Our John Baker was diagnosed with metastatic osteosarcoma May 13, 2018, as he was finishing his first year at Michigan Tech.  After months of intensive chemotherapy and several surgeries, including limb salvage surgery, John was declared NED in February 2019.  He traveled abroad, secured a summer internship, and planned his return to Michigan Tech.  Following his 3 month check up, John began his internship.  The second day was cut short as John had started coughing up blood.  We returned to Lurie Childrens Hospital where John received the news his cancer had returned.  His internship came to an abrupt halt and John's dream of returning to Michigan Tech was crushed!  Over the course of the next 6 months John's cancer spread quickly and did not respond to chemo.  He lived in constant pain that no amount of medicine could relieve.  In late January 2020 John  began receiving hospice care.  Two days after watching his brother do the Purple Plunge, John was readmitted to Lurie's; his pain was at a level hospice could no longer manage.  We said good bye to our John Baker on March 30, 2020.  John's life was cut way too short!   JOHN is why I'm doing the 10th Annual Purple Plunge.  JOHN is why I am raising money for this great charity!  Purple Plunge helps individuals with cancer in OUR communities.
